This  week’s readings examine the historical perspectives that have  culminated into the profession of social work. Popple and Leighninger  (2011) posits that rather than debating social work’s professional, the  focus should be regarding the “(1) effects the process of seeking a  professional identity has had on development of social work and (2) the  social functions social work might stress in its attempt to define its  particular role in society” (p. 63).

Name  at least three key arguments that each author surmises pertaining to  social work as a profession. In your analysis, what are some of the  effects these arguments have had on the social work professional  identity?
Based on your readings, elaborate on at least two major social work professional issues today? Why?
