Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder

Research Proposal: An original theoretically motivated speech perception experiment.
This project is your platform to structure your ideas and thoughts in a carefully designed speech perception experiment to answer your (deep curiosity and theoretically driven) research question. Structure your subheadings like a research paper (introduction, research questions/hypothesis/predictions, methods, participants, procedures, analysis, statistics, expected results and discussion, conclusion, references, appendices).

Below are the instructions for each section:

Introduction: Provides a brief background (synthesized/critical view of existing literature) and rationale (why is it important to study) for your study and culminates in a testable research question (hypothesis or set of predictions). The question must be grounded (or based on) a theory or model of speech perception. The hypothesis/research questions must be placed at the end of the introduction and before the start of the methods section.
Methods: Include: description of participants (age, gender, inclusion criteria, hearing screening, etc), test settings (where & when), type of stimuli (what), presentation methods (how), number of repetitions, control variables/conditions, experimental paradigm (e.g., identification, discrimination, phoneme monitoring), data procedures (counts, reaction time, eye-tracking, etc). Keep in mind that the purpose of the methods section is so that other scientists/researchers can replicate your study.

Results & Discussion: Given your test methodology what do you expect to find (expected results)? Create hypothetical graphs/figures/charts/data tables for the demonstration of potential results. Which of the potential outcomes would support or refute your hypothesis? What would that mean for the bigger picture or implication for the theory? Would your data support a certain theoretical perspective? Generally, if data doesn’t fit the theory the theory needs to be modified/changed and challenged!
Conclusion: End with a note suggesting possible future projects/next steps/follow-up studies needed etc. and how your study will contribute to the big picture.

References: Cite references using APA and max references allowed is 40.

Appendices: Add as needed and label as A, B, C, etc (add after references)

Figures and Tables: maximum two each (if required). Figures and Tables are counted towards the page limit.

STRICT Page limit 10 double spaced pages; 12 point font. References and Appendices do not count towards the page limit. For information on Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder check on this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Attention_deficit_hyperactivity_disorder_controversies
