“The effectiveness of Smartphone apps for lifestyle improvement in non-communicable diseases” is a systematic review and meta-analyses article that reviews relevant pieces of literature of forty-five other researchers on the issue (Lunde et al., 2018). Eighty percent of the reviewed works of literature come from studies conducted within the last five years that is from the year 2013. The pieces of literature are obtained from five databases which are CINAHL, MEDLINE, EMBASE, Cochrane Reviews and Trials, and Academic Research Premier. Quantitative study designs with both randomized and non-randomized trials were used to determine which primary research kinds of literature were included in the review. The literature also had to bear the sample of patients aged eighteen years and older diagnosed with at least one of the four non-communicable diseases which are cancer, diabetes mellitus, chronic pulmonary diseases, and cardiovascular diseases.
The systematic review provides support for the importance of the study in its quest to propose an intervention that would promote the change in lifestyle in patients suffering from the four non-communicable diseases (NCDs). According to the article, seventy percent of all deaths globally are caused by NCDs every year. The researchers also discovered that only fifty percent of the patients adhere to their prescribed treatment or even lifestyle interventions that are aimed at helping the patient live a relatively longer and healthier life. The studies are critically examined and reported objectively with Cochrane Collaboration`s risk of bias tool being used to ensure they are free from bias.
