Thinking about the writings that you have been assigned this semester, answer the first question and one of the last two questions:

1. Which author’s work did you identify with most or like most as a reader? Why were you able to identify with or like this author’s writing? Give a specific example from an assigned writing to discuss your reasoning.

2. Discuss a particular assigned writing and explain how it portrayed the shaping of cultural identity/identities.

OR

3. Discuss a particular assigned writing and discuss how it engaged readers in meaningful and enduring questions across human cultures.

To answer question 2 and 3 i want you to use these two questions from Discussion Board #5: Independence, Nationalism, and Identity
1. Discuss Paine’s main argument in the excerpt you read from Common Sense. How does this work reflect the changing views?
2. Sentences and phrases from the Declaration of Independence are often recycled in American political and cultural documents. Think of some instances when you may have heard the Declaration quoted. Which sections are quoted most often? Why? How do you think interpretations and use of the language of the Declaration have changed since Jefferson’s time?
